Sögusvuntan (The Pocket Theatre)
The Pocket Theatre was founded in 1984 by Hallveig Thorlacius and is her one woman´s touring theatre. She wants to pass on all the exciting stories she listened to as a child, and allow the children to enter the story with her. The children in the audience are an important part of the story and by helping the characters overcome the obstacles they face, they become the true heroes in the end. Hallveig Thorlacius is a writer, a puppet maker and a puppeteer. Her puppet plays have been performed by other puppet theatres as well. One of her plays has also been published as a children´s book.
Performance: The World’s Smallest Giant.
The World´s Smallest Giant
This is a simple story with a few puppets in a basket. When Hallveig comes flying in from Iceland on her old umbrella, with her story apron neatly packed in a basket, she is taken by great surprise: all the stories have fallen out of the pockets of her apron! What is she to do? By chance she discovers Gryla, an invisible troll-girl, hiding in one of the pockets. Gryla is the most scary character in Icelandic folktales. She feeds exclusively on naughty children, but lately all the children have become so good that she is starving to death. Now she has fallen out of the pocket where she is supposed to be, along with the stories, and that is when the trouble starts….
